This institution caters tertiary care to patients from all over the state and neighbouring states. The hospitals attached to GKMC – Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital includesGovernment RoyapettahHospital, Government ThiruvotteeswararHospital of Thoracic Medicine Government Peripheral Hospital, K.K.Nagar and Government Peripheral Hospital, Anna Nagar.
History of the Department
Our Department of Biochemistry had come a long way and the Clinical Biochemistry laboratory is fully equipped with sophisticated diagnostic equipments such aschemistry analyser Cobas c311 , XL640 , XL 360 and EM 200 autoanalyser and immuno assays e411 , Electrolyte analysers and electrophoretic systems. Our researchlab has Thermocycler, Gel documentation system, UV laminar flow hood & Spectrophotometer for doing research by faculties and postgraduates.
Our 24 hour biochemistry laboratory, runs in 3 shifts on a 24 /7basis catering to the needs of patients round the clock.
With a regular Internal and External Quality Control Program and managed by dedicated and qualified Faculties and Technicians , We ensure highest quality and standards in the performance of the laboratory with accurate and precise investigatory reports .
The academic activities of the Department of Biochemistry includes Post Graduation in MD Biochemistry , Undergraduate medical and paramedical teaching programmes : MBBS , DMLT courses, Bsc Cardiopulmonory Resuscitation,Bsc optometry &Unani medicine.
The post graduate teaching programme include M.D Biochemistry course, which was started in the year 2011 underthe able leadership of Prof Dr Revathi Jaikumar and Prof Dr Nagendran Ramachandran. Our post graduateDr.X.Lordes sandy received Dr.G.V. Suraiya begum gold medal for her academic excellence in MD Biochemistryuniversity examination for the study period2017-2020.
With the increase in MBBS students from 100 to 150 seats from the academic year 2012our department started functioning from the three storeyed Faculty block .
