Introduction

The Department of Surgical Gastroenterology & Proctology in Kilpauk Medical college was started in the July 1987 under the able leadership of Dr.SrikumariDamodaram. This department has 1 unit with 30 beds. Mch Higher Specialitycourse in Surgical Gastroenterology was started in this hospital in the year 2019 with two seats(LOP dated 12.06.2019) with clearance by the Ministry of Health, Government of India, and Medical council of India, Government of Tamilnadu and the Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai.

Average of 100 to 150 out patients get treatment in this department per month including 30 to 50 new patients.

Outpatient services on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 9am to 12 noon

Diagnostic Endoscopy (VOGD and Colonoscopy) on all outpatient days after prior appointment

Operation theatre services on Tuesday,Thursday and Saturday with two tables.

The department holds 1 professor, 1 Associate professor and two assistant professors as required by the NMC guidelines

There are 6 senior residents who work diligently round the clock to provide the utmost patient care and emergency services to the hospital.
